"A cytochrome P450 regulates a domestication trait in cultivated tomato" Manuscript Published in PNAS

Congratulations to Dr. Esther van der Knaap, whose manuscript titled, "A cytochrome P450 regulates a domestication trait in cultivated tomato" was published by PNAS on September 30, 2013.

The paper describes the cloning of a domestication gene in tomato (the second fruit mass gene from any fruit or vegetable crop), its role in regulating fruit size and the identification of a potential regulatory element in the promoter regulating gene expression. The work represents an important improvement in the understanding of the regulation of fruit size and how domestication played a role in the selection of this gene. Also, it shows that the same gene may have been selected during domestication of chile pepper leading to increased fruit size in both vegetables.
